Power Over Ethernet (POE)
Our Power over Ethernet switches and extenders are designed for integration into any IP surveillance system. These switches and extenders are intended for use with ethernet cables to connect IP CCTV cameras to a Local Area Network (LAN) or even a Wide Area Network (WAN).
Power over Ethernet (PoE) describes the use of ethernet cables to pass data and electricity across a network. The system is commonly used to power IP cameras while also ensuring the transfer of video data at the same time.
For IP-based CCTV installations, a typical setup would include a single or multiple CCTV cameras connected to an IP network via a switch. A Network Video Recorder (NVR) is often used to store digital video footage. The PoE method ensures all devices can communicate effectively with each other.
Switches are available with either a single input and output or with multiple ethernet ports for handling several cameras and devices. For situations where you require ethernet cables to stretch a longer distance, PoE extenders work well.
PoE allows for the easy connection and transfer of data across small or even very large LANs. And since all devices are connected and powered up, it is possible to integrate advanced software to enable the monitoring or broadcast of video feeds.
