It's a true fact that people and equipment can be killed by lightning. In CCTV installations, long cable runs to camera and equipment act like massive antennae ready to be struck by lightning. If lightning does strike one of these cable runs, it can quite easily destroy the delicate CCTV equipment. One way to protect against this is to use a surge protector. These work by channelling any high voltage spikes or surges down to ground rather than through the CCTV equipment. Ideally a surge protector should be fitted at both ends of a cable run to protect both the camera and the control equipment. This unit is designed a terminal strip connection for use with most installations.
